Ethel Walt Human Rights Scholarship at the University of Cape Town

Ethel Walt was a human rights activist who directed her passion for social justice through her work in the Black Sash. In 2010, her family established a R10 000 scholarship in her name for the LLM or MPhil programme in Social Justice or Human Rights Law by coursework and minor dissertation.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate proven community involvement of some kind, and a commitment to engaging in community issues after graduation.

Application Requirements

1. A letter of motivation as to why you should be awarded the Ethel Walt Human Rights Scholarship and what you intend to do with your MPhil/LLM (min. 300 and max. 600 words).
2. Curriculum Vitae which includes your UCT student number and contactable telephone number(s).
3. Certified copies of all relevant tertiary transcripts Applications should be submitted by 31st January
